Why to go: including information on AOAC-type activities

● Beautiful and rugged coastline offers spectacular kayaking along the sea cliffs interspersed by quaint

traditional Cornish fishing harbours. You may have encounters with bird and marine wildlife.

When - best time of year :

● Summer - May - September - Neap tides and good whether recommended as coast is exposed with

few landing beaches. If poor weather forecast cancel trip as the main purpose is to paddle along the

coast.

● Campsite facilities: Good showers and toilets, level pitches, small shop, heated outdoor pool, on site

public house. Cost £8.50/pitch per night based on two people in tent, extra people at £2 each. Only

one tent per pitch (however small) per pitch.

How to get there:

M5 south to Exeter, A30 to Oakhampton, Launceston take A395, take A39 to Camelford, in

Camelford remain on the A39 High Street, on exiting the south side of Camelford turn right (near

petrol station) on to the B3226, at Sportsman Road junction turn left into lane, turn right into Juliet

Well Holiday Park just past the Bowling Club, reception is by the entrance.

● We will be in the camping field, normally on the lower terraces, proceed down the lane between

reception and the pub, take second left to the lower terraces.

Canoeing Information:

Type of Canoeing:  Sea kayaking - coastal

Grade: Coast exposed                   

Access: Landing can be a problem with steep dumping surf beaches ie Teknow. Limited parking near beach at some coves if you arrive after 9.30 am, parking at

Crackington Haven, Boscastle, Tecknow and Widmouth. Do not attempt to park at Port Issac.

Minimum Level of competence: 2 Star Kayak, competent paddlers

Length of trip:    4 – 6 hours             

Description: scenic but exposed coast

Kit List: Sea Touring Kit List + packed lunch and water. Facilities: Public toilets & pub.

Trips: Depending on weather and sea conditions.

Suggested trips Port William (Teknow) to Crackington Haven - one way or shorter return trips to/ from

Boscastle or Tintagel Head. Crackington Haven to Widmouth Bay. If you need a sheltered paddle use the

River Camel estuary, access at Padstow, Rock or Wadbridge. OS map sheets 190 Bude and Clovelly and 200 Newquay and Bodmin.
