Canoeing - Kennet and Avon Canal - Bradford on Avon
Why to go: including information on AOAC-type activities
● Kayaking and Open canoe, easy trip for those who have completed Taster 1 Star.
● Very scenic canal trip with great views of the Avon valley, crossing two aqueducts.

How to get there:
● Meet at the club store off Muller Road, Eastville 9.00 am, load and leave by 9.30.
● Access point: Bradford on Avon - Large public car park (free) in Baileys Barn. OS Grid ST (826,603)
From store, proceed to Kingswood, at the Avon Ring Road, take the A420 to Wick, Tog Hill, at
Pennsylvania turn right onto A46 to Batheaston, at the end of the Batheaston by-pass turn left at
roundabout onto the A4, at Bathford roundabout turn right onto A363, on entering Bradford on Avon,
drive through the town centre, over the river, taking the Frome Road B3109 (SEE TOILETS NOTE),
cross the canal on sharp bend, turn left into Moulton Drive, cross mini roundabout by super market,
cross canal, turn left into housing estate of Baileys Barn, drive to far end of estate and bottom of car
park. Toilets, stop off at the public toilets in the station car park in the centre of Bradford-on-Avon or
use the tea shops next to canal, exit by path at bottom of car park (no toilets at lunch stop).
● Carry boats to canal, via path exit at bottom of car park, past the lock, then carry over the Frome
Road towards the town centre, turn first left down a narrow road next to pub, launch by moored canal
boats. OR turning left out of bottom of car park, get on canal and paddle towards Trowbridge.

Grade: 1 (traffic congestion at times on narrow canal) Access: no problems encountered
Minimum Level of competence: Taster - 1 Star or equivalent experience.
