Activity Type:
- Walking
Start date:
Details (public view):
Time to dust off the walking boots and gaiters and find your mountain legs hidden somewhere in the shed.
For my inaugural AOAC walk I have decided on a full day out in the Brecon Beacons, South Wales. Due to the timing of this event and not knowing what the weather will be doing I will make a final decision on the route a few days before the Saturday, that way we can maximise our enjoyment without compromising on safety.
I will make the decision based on these three options:
1) Good weather - An attempt at the Pen y Fan Horseshoe (Approx. 18km with 940m height gain) - There are easier alternatives and escape routes that I will discuss on the morning of the walk.
2) Fair weather - A walk to Fan y Big and return via the Wellington Bomber crash site (Approx. 14km with 560m height gain)
3) Poor weather - A low level walk with the option of seeing the local waterfalls (Approx. 17km with 435m height gain)
