Walking

Walking is one of AOAC’s most popular Club activities; it is a great introduction to the Club and a good way to get to know club members. In addition to the walking events on our calendar, almost all of our multi-activity trips (UK and abroad) include walking.

Walks range from scenic walks through fields and moorland to coastal walks and challenging adventures in mountainous areas. There is often a pub or tea shop involved. All walks are graded so you can decide if the walk is the right level for you.

The Club Walking Year

The walking group aim to have two day walks per month, evening walks in the summer and a weekend away every couple of months. Day walks tend to be around Bristol and Bath, in the Mendips and Cotswolds, as well as further afield in the Brecon Beacons and the Black mountains. We’re lucky to be surrounded by some great countryside and walking is a great way to explore.

There are also opportunities for more challenging walks in classic mountain areas such as Snowdonia, the Lake District and Scotland. In recent years there have also been trips abroad, with multi-day hut-to-hut hikes in Slovenia’s Julian Alps and the Pyrenees.

Leading walks is interesting and rewarding and around 40 club members contribute to the club in this way.  The club supports leaders who want to obtain national qualifications.
