Change in Walk - Sunday 20 January 2019
The first leg of the Offa's Dyke walk has been postponed until Sunday 17 February but in its place Russ will be leading a lovely walk along the Bath Skyline.

Only a short stroll from the city centre, enter another world, onto the skyline hills above Bath and beyond, through 6 miles of meadows and ancient woodlands to secluded valleys.

Chris Wilde Walking Weekends
Chris organises some fabulous hardcore walking trips and this year is no exception:

Yorkshire Dales - A Wilde Winter Wander - 12-14 February 2019
2-3 Day winter walking and pub tour over hills and valleys of the Yorkshire Dales. Staying in the south of the Dales, close to The 3 Peaks. Walks will be 12-18 miles in winter conditions.

Scottish Winter Walking - 14-17 March 2019

A  3-4 day centre based trip, trekking up some of the Trossach Mountains. This trip will involve the use of crampons and axes. All participants will need previous experience of winter walking in crampons. The walks will be long and arduous, and will involve occasional axe work for steep ascents and ridges.

This trip is dependent on winter snow conditions and will not be confirmed until end of February.

Maximum 4 persons per experienced leader.

These are both walks for experienced walkers so if you are interested you will need to email Chris directly.

New Members Weekends
There are now 4 New Members Weekends on the calendar. There is currently a limited number of places for existing members as at least 8 places are reserved for new members. If you are new to the club these are the ideal trips for you; mostly walking weekends, you will get a chance to meet other members in an easy, comfortable way. Email Kath if you'd like to book and she will release a space for you.

1-3 March 2019 - Shropshire
5-7 April 2019 - Exmoor
21-23 June 2019 - Brecons
11-13 October 2019 - Swanage

These weekends usually follow the format of pizzas as you arrive on the Friday; Saturday will be a group meal or maybe a BBQ depending on  the weather, and both are all included in the price. There will generally be at least two walks per day of differing levels so you don't need to worry about it being too hardcore. You can book on this under the introductory membership...come along and see what the club is like.

Alps Trips 2019
We have two amazing Alps trips happening this year:

Julian Alps, Slovenia - 15-30 June 2019
If you are interested please contact Sarah.

https://aoac.co.uk/content/multi-activity-julian-alps-trip-slovenia

Haute Alps, France - 2-18 August 2019
If you are interested please contact Andy.

https://aoac.co.uk/content/french-alps-amazing-adventure-august-19

You can join either trip for the full two weeks or for any part of that period that suits you. Activities will depend on leaders and will certainly include kayaking, walking, climbing and via ferrata. Other potential activities include MTBing, cycling, white water rafting, canyoning, hydrospeeding and zip wire (depending on local availability).

It looks like we will be driving over and camping, keeping the costs down and thus leaving more money available for extra activities. Plans are already being made so do express your interest; full planning meetings to discuss logistics will be on the calendar shortly.

Chris Wilde is also organising a Hut-to-Hut excursion within the Slovenia trip for anyone who is interested in more hardcore walking; more details on the calendar soon.

Saturday 26 January 2019 - Club Social

After the fabulous success of the Christmas Party, Kev and Carol will help you wipe away those January blues with a cheeky little social on the Grain Barge from 7.00pm. They're booking a table for food - if you'd like to join them text Kev.

IMPORTANT
Outdoor First Aid Course - 23-24 February 2019

If you need to refresh your First Aid qualification (check the expiry date of yours...this needs to be kept up-to-date) or you would like to learn how to perform First Aid in the Great Outdoors, then this is the course for you. The provider has discounted the price of this 2-day course generously for club members so we could do with 10 participants. You will receive a nationally recognised certification at the end of the course.

This course is delivered using a range of techniques including, instructor led presentation, group practice, group discussion, PowerPoint, video presentation, and casualty simulation exercises. It's a fabulous course and you will enjoy it as well as enhance your skills. Check out the full details below:

https://aoac.co.uk/content/outdoor-first-aid-course-0

http://m-tc.co.uk/outdoor-first-aid-2-days

Activity leaders can claim a 100% subsidy after attending an AOAC arranged course and non-leaders can claim a 50% subsidy after being the designated First Aider on 5 Club events. In both cases, please ensure you complete the club's Training Subsidy application form as soon as you book to go on the training.

If you have an event you particularly want me to advertise or you have any interesting news you'd like to share, a story to tell about an event you've participated in, or any more tips that may help club members, please let me know at [email protected] . Thank you.

See you soon
Cathy x

---------------------------------------------------------------

For activities that are weather dependent, there are often ad hoc events posted on the forum close to the day. It is worth subscribing to these as you will receive an email with the content of the message and a link to the page. Then you won't miss out on that last minute walk/climb/paddle/ride. Also, we have a Facebook page, a Twitter account (@aoacbristol) and an Instagram account (aoacbristol). If you haven't already, join the Facebook group where you will find postings of ad hoc events and photos of past events and follow us on Twitter and Instagram.

If you want to know more about how the club works and how the committee makes decisions then please do look at the minutes

If you have any issues with the website or email please report these using the direct link in the members section or here: https://tinyurl.com/AOAC- web-issues
