URGENT & VERY IMPORTANT

If you haven't already done so, please log on to the AOAC website and tick the box to agree to 'Allow My Name to be Visible'. Until you do so you will be unable to attend any events, so it's imperative that you do this asap. You may also have a problem re-joining - you need to tick the box before you can pay.

Organisers of unpaid events, please check on the website that attendees are showing on the members list. If they are not please gently prompt them to tick the box. Thank you.

Equipment Audit - Saturday 19 October 2019
Tackley Road, Horfield

Have you enjoyed using club equipment this year? Are you Interested in seeing what equipment we have for members to hire? Then come along to the store on Saturday morning and help Clare and Rob check the equipment. They will be there between 10am and 1pm and would appreciate all the help they can get; if you can only spare an hour or so please just come along for whatever part of that time suits you. The more hands, the merrier and the quicker the job will get done :)

Please Note: There will be cake!!!

Please contact [email protected] so Clare and Rob know you’re coming (and they have enough cake!!).

Thank you.

Lengthy/Overseas Events 2020 Planning Meeting
Well, what treats have we got in store for you next year!. Just a quick meeting to pencil lengthy/overseas trips on the calendar has produced the following possibilities:

Feb/Mar - Winter Mountaineering, Sierra Nevada, Spain
Apr/May - Walking Week, Tuscany, Italy
Apr/Sep - Mountain Biking, South France
Jun/Jul - Sea Kayaking, Scilly Isles
Jul/Aug - Hut to Hut, Pyrenees (poss)
Jul - Road Cycling week, somewhere in the UK
Jul - Multi-Activity Trip - French Alps or Germany
Sep - Sea Kayaking, Sardinia
Dec - New Year trip - Betws-y-Coed

These will be added to the calendar shortly as a 'Save the Date' with full details and booking dates to follow.

At the meeting it was decided that any organiser can ask the Activities Officer (AO) to add a 'Save the Date' event for any event they are thinking of planning which is over 4 days duration. This would mean an organiser can send an email with the approximate location, dates, a brief description of the event, approximate numbers and an approximate budget. The AO will set up the 'Save the Date' event and add your name to the member details so that you can be contacted for further information.  (If, at any time, you know that you will not be running the event it's really important you let the AO know to remove the 'Save the Date' event).

At this point nothing will be underwritten by the club. Later you would create your proposal in full for the AO to approve at which point the AO would delete the 'Save the Date' event and your event would then become official and you will not be at financial risk. Please note that if the AO does not have the full proposal within 3 months of a 'Save the Date' event it will be removed from the calendar.

The purpose of doing this is to allow people to see what's coming up over the next year and make their plans accordingly.

We'll see how this goes over the following year. The Activities Officer would be interested to know if this helps you choose suitable times when planning your larger trips. She'd also be interested to know how members find it, and will keep a note of the number of Save the Date events that aren't turned into proposed events (which will hopefully be kept to a real minimum). If you have any feedback please let the AO know at [email protected]

If you want to organise an event but haven't previously, all the help you need can be found in 'Arrange Events' under the members tab.

When you're ready let the AO have your 'Save the Date' info for the events now being proposed for 2020.

It would be really helpful if you could use this format:

Event Name:
Event Location:
Category:
Dates:
Brief description:
Number people:
Approx budget:

Obviously if you see a 'Save the Date' this is only a guide as to timings, costs etc and the finer detail may change but it's there to give you an idea of the trips available so you can make an informed choice.

Climbing - Tuesdays and Thursdays
We now have at least two opportunities per week to climb with the club. Tuesdays from around 6pm (sometimes earlier) at Redpoint Climbing Centre in Bedminster and Thursdays from 7-9pm at TCA - The Church, in St Werburgs.  Beginners are welcome but please check with the organiser to ensure there are appropriate numbers to ensure safety.

I have a feeling the bottom two photos of Sarah are from Bloc but they give you the gist! Can we have some photos from indoor climbing please, struggled to find any.

Black Mountain Offas Dyke weekend - 25-26 October 2019
There is still a space left on this weekend where we will take on the next section of the Offa’s Dyke path, taking us into the magical Ewyas Valley, past leaning church spires and heading out on to wild open country.

This is a two day walk, finishing in Hay On Wye, staying two nights at the Court Farm bunkhouse, in the shadow of the ruined Llanthony Priory. On the Saturday evening we will enjoy a meal at the local pub.

Whether you have started this journey with the club, or not, this will be a great weekend walking in the beautiful welsh countryside.

Mid Wales Multi-Activity Weekend including White-Water Kayaking - 22-24 November 2019
A place has become available on this weekend. Staying at Plasnewydd bunkhouse in Mid Wales, a great location for many activities including kayaking (river Wye) plus walking and mountain biking. There are leaders for walking (different levels), whitewater kayaking (you need to be competent on grade 2 white-water, rivers are grade 2 and 3) and mountain biking. We have use of the whole recently built bunkhouse, including large kitchen, lounge and a dryroom:

Malham Tarn New Year Trip 2019-2020 - 28 December 2019 - 2 January 2020
There are still some spaces left on the annual AOAC New Year trip at Malham Tarn in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Staying at the Malham Tarn Field Centre which is in a stunning but isolated location on the Pennine Way with direct access from the centre to local walks, road and mountain bike riding. White water kayaking is available nearby. The main event of the trip will be a New Year’s Eve Party – dinner and dance.

Our accommodation is a Georgian Lodge, set above Malham Tarn. We have exclusive use of the centre. It has very generous communal spaces; lounges, dining rooms, kitchen. There will be no more than 2 people per bedroom, many of which are ensuite. The trip includes a legendary multi-course New Year’s Eve meal and dance into the early hours of the next day, followed by an early morning dip in the lake?? Sounds like an awesome trip.
